DAUI Public Library

This library in Saudi Arabia serves as a community gathering space and public forum, emphasizing the physical presence of books. Four towering book walls form the heart of the building, acting as a filter between public areas and quieter peripheral spaces. A grand staircase links the library levels and mezzanines, offering access to curated, rotating collections. Designed as a refuge from the harsh sunlight, the central hall is bathed in soft glow from above, with carved voids drawing in daylight and expelling air through ceiling apertures, creating passive cooling. These voids define key entry points and gathering spaces. Limestone masonry façades creates shadowed folds, marking entrances. Locally sourced materials and sustainable design principles anchor the library to its environment, blending function and cultural significance.
