Triangle Fire Memorial
The proposed Triangle Fire Memorial commemorates the 146 lives lost in the 1911 tragedy through an elegant installation of 146 thin copper strips interwoven with horizontal rods spanning the 10-story facade of the Asch Building. Each strip bears the names and personal histories of the victims, creating a tactile, sensory experience for visitors who are encouraged to touch the raised letters. Viewed vertically, the memorial honors each individual, while the horizontal alignment reveals shared connections across their lives, time, and labor. Anchored to a single pier, the design invites viewers to look upward, evoking the harrowing distance of their fall and offering a poignant, reflective tribute.
